STRESS TESTING

A stress test shows how the heart works during physical activity.

  • Treadmill: Involves exercise/walking on a treadmill to increase heart rate.

    • Bring comfortable running shoes
    • No food 8 hours prior to the test
    • Take all medications except for the ones listed below.
    • Do not take: Lopressor, Metoprolol, Toprol XL, Tenormin, Atenolol, Coreg, Carvedilol, Bisoprolol, Bystolic, Inderal, Propranolol, Labetalol, Nebivolol.
    • You can bring the medication with you to take after testing.
  • Chemical: Involves medications being administered to imitate the effects of exercise.

    • Take all medications
    • No caffeine for 24 hours
    • No food for eight hours
    • No chocolate, tea, soda, cocoa, pain medications, Excedrine, Anacon, Midol, Florinal.

BEFORE YOUR VEIN PROCEDURE

BEFORE YOUR VEIN PROCEDURE

We will call and verify your insurance coverage prior to your procedure. We will work with your insurance to assure that we have provided everything they require. However, you may be responsible for some charges depending on the type and agreement YOU signed with your insurance company. You will be expected to pay your co-pay and /or deductible at the time of service. We kindly ask for you not to bring any children with you on the day of your procedure. Please wear loose-fitting clothing on the day of your procedure. We kindly ask that you be at the office 20 minutes prior to your appointment.

  1. Bring your compression stockings with you on the day of your procedure. If you do not have a prescription for stockings, please notify us immediately, so we can fax a prescription for you.

  2. If you are given a prescription for a sedative by Dr. Van Adamson for the day of your procedure, you must arrange to have a ride to and from the office.

  3. There are no diet restrictions prior to and after your procedure. You should have a normal breakfast if your procedure is in the morning or a normal lunch if your procedure is in the afternoon.

  4. Please notify our staff if you are taking any new medications that you have not listed previously AND if you have had any local/general anesthesia one week prior to your leg procedure.

AFTER YOUR PROCEDURE

Make sure you walk for 20 minutes before you leave the facility and at least 10 minutes per hour for the remainder of the day of your procedure.

  1. You will be asked to return to the office three days after your procedure for a follow-up ultrasound unless told otherwise.

  2. You are to wear your compression stocking for 72 hours following your procedure. After the 72 hours, you are to wear your compression stockings only during the day for at least two weeks. You do not sleep with your stockings on except for the initial 72 hours.

  3. If you are sent home with a bandage wrap, do not get it wet. If you are to take a shower after the procedure, tie a plastic bag over the bandage in order to keep it dry.

  4. Please do not lift anything over 20 pounds for seven days following your procedure. If you are going to rest after your procedure please place pillows under your leg and elevate that leg so your feet are at the level of your heart.

  5. Notify our staff if your employer requires an excused doctor’s note for any reason pertaining to the day of your procedure and follow-up’s.

  6. After your procedure, you may return to your normal routine/activities unless told otherwise.

  7. You will be provided with Dr. Van Adamson’s cell number in case you need to contact her. Please notify Dr. Adamson if you experience any discoloration of your toes or discomfort of the bandage wrap, inability to move your toes, bleeding, or pain you feel is not tolerable.
